PRIVACY
PRIVACY, WITHOUT THE FOG.
We only want the information needed to run the site, respond to people and grow the movement responsibly. This page explains what may be collected and why.
Last updated: 14 September 2026
1. Who this notice is for
This privacy notice applies to visitors to onefingerforearth.org and to people who contact, participate in or interact with One Finger for Earth through the website.
2. Information we may receive
Depending on how you use the site, we may receive information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, message, collaboration request or participation details. Basic technical information may also be processed when you visit the website, such as IP address, browser information, device information, referral source and page activity.
3. Raise Yours submissions
If you use the Raise Yours submission form, we collect the public social-post link you submit, your “I raise it for…” reason, your name or social handle, an optional country, your email address and the permissions or confirmations you select on the form.
Every submission is moderated before publication. A submission starts as pending and is not automatically published. If approved, your reason, display name or handle, optional country, social platform and link to the public post may appear on One Finger for Earth. Your email address and private moderator notes are not displayed publicly.
The submission form asks separately for permission to feature the submitted public post on the One Finger for Earth website and for optional permission to repost submitted content on official One Finger for Earth social channels. The second permission is optional.
The submission system accepts links rather than public file uploads and does not automatically download or scrape the image or video from the social platform. If content is later stored in the One Finger for Earth media library for an approved feature, this is handled separately as part of moderation.
4. Why information is used
Information may be used to operate and secure the website, respond to enquiries, manage participation or collaboration requests, moderate submissions, publish approved participation content, improve the site, understand how the movement is being discovered and meet legal obligations.
5. Legal bases
Where European or UK data-protection law applies, processing may rely on your consent, the steps needed to respond to your request, legitimate interests in operating and securing the movement and website, or a legal obligation. The appropriate basis depends on the specific interaction. Where publication or reposting is based on your permission, you can ask us to stop future use or remove content we control.
6. Cookies, security and analytics
The website may use essential cookies needed for normal site operation and may use analytics or similar tools to understand visits and improve content. The Raise Yours form also uses technical anti-spam and rate-limiting measures. The OFE submission database does not store an IP address as a submission field, although hosting, security or infrastructure providers may process IP addresses as part of normal website operation. Where consent is legally required for non-essential cookies or tracking, those technologies should only be activated after the required choice has been made.
7. Service providers
We may use trusted providers for website hosting, email, forms, analytics, security or media delivery. Those providers may process limited personal data on our behalf. We aim to use only the access needed for the service they provide.
8. Social media and external platforms
If you interact with One Finger for Earth through a social network or another external service, that platform processes information under its own privacy terms. A link in the Raised for Earth gallery may take you to the original public post on that third-party platform. Links from this website do not make us responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services.
9. How long information is kept
Information is kept only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was received, for moderation, legitimate record-keeping, security or legal requirements. Different types of information may have different retention periods. The current submission system does not automatically publish or automatically delete pending or rejected records; moderation records can be removed manually when they are no longer needed.
10. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to certain processing, to receive a copy of your data, or to withdraw consent. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. If you want an approved OFE submission removed from the website, contact us at positive@onefingerforearth.org. Removing an OFE feature does not remove the original post from the social platform where you published it.
11. International processing
Some website, communications or social-media providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where required, appropriate safeguards should be used for international transfers.
12. Children
The public Raise Yours submission form is currently intended for adults. It requires the submitter to confirm that they are 18 or older and that the submission does not feature a minor as the subject of the post. This keeps the first phase of the participation system deliberately simple and cautious.
13. Changes to this notice
This notice may change as the website adds participation tools, forms, analytics or other services. The date at the top shows the latest version.
14. Operator and privacy contact
This website and its participation tools operate under the name One Finger for Earth. For privacy questions, withdrawal requests or data-rights requests, contact positive@onefingerforearth.org.
